New Freight-Brokerage App Connects Truck Drivers to Freight

Truck Driver App

The 4-year old trucking startup from Seattle, founded in 2015, is called Convoy, and not only are they working towards helping build a better future for the #1 job in America of truck driver by connecting truck drivers to freight, but they are also building a better future for the environment as well.

Rather than the traditional way of using a phone broker, Convoy allows trucking and shipping companies to connect over its free app, where carriers may also utilize it to get access to personalized load offers, increase their take-home pay, reduce deadhead miles and have visibility into their next load. Convoy also claims they can now match truck drivers and loads 100% autonomously in top markets, and this automated freight brokerage can match trucks with better loads.

Convoy differs from other services by the fact that truck drivers and small trucking companies use Convoy's app on their phone, which allows Convoy to direct them to freight that's relevant for what they want to run. They also use their software to create efficient routes for truck drivers looking for shippers. Though they face the current challenge of driver shortages as all competitors are facing right now, by making the industry more accessible and more desirable for people to begin working in, they hope to continue their success in building the marketplace and really change the face of the way trucking is done for the better on all levels. And they are doing this by offering technology that helps drivers get jobs and find more loads, which directly equates into earning more, as well as, the ability to track the entire process - from pick-up through drop-off - in order to get paid on time. Using the Convoy App from pick-up to drop off also qualifies for Convoy QuickPay, where the driver can upload their signed Bill of Lading and get paid within 2 days of approval all without the hassle of dealing with paperwork, factoring and waiting.

SAFETY RECALLS

The following are safety recalls issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:

  • Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Western Star 4900 trucks. The front axle weight capacity may exceed the spring capacity. Overloaded springs may result in the front axle separating from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

  • Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2015-2017 F-150, and 2017 F-250 and F-350 trucks equipped with a crew cab. The left rear infl atable seat belt buckle assembly may be inadequately attached to its mounting bracket. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 210, “Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages.” If the left rear infl atable seat belt buckle separates from its mounting bracket, the seat occupant may not be adequately restrained, increasing their risk of injury.

  • Mack Trucks is recalling certain 2016 Pinnacle CHU and CXU diesel trucks equipped with certain Dana steer axles. The castellated nut and cotter pin on the steer axles may not have been properly torqued, allowing the tie rod to loosen within the steer axle. If the tie rod loosens, it may disconnect from the steering knuckle, causing a complete loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash.

  • Volvo Trucks North America is recalling certain 2016 Volvo VNL and VNM trucks equipped with certain Dana Spicer D-Series and E-Series steer axles. The castellated nut on the steer axles may not be properly torqued, allowing the tie rod to loosen. If the tie rod loosens, it may disconnect from the steering knuckle, causing a complete loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash.

Civacon's CivaStar Advanced Overfill Sensor Optimizes Probe Reliability

Civacon CivaStar Probe Civacon, part of OPW, announced the release of CivaStar, the next evolution of advanced overfill prevention. CivaStar's unique design, construction and LED visual verification feature are light years ahead of today's conventional probes. Unlike current probes, CivaStar goes beyond safeguarding against costly overfills. By including an LED-lit tip at the end of each probe, technicians can quickly verify the active status of the probes and the surrounding wires.

"If you deliver fuel, your number one objective is to quickly and safely transport as much as possible to as many customers," said Chris Gooding, Director of Sales and Operations for Civacon. "CivaStar helps you accomplish this by increasing probe reliability and providing real-time status updates."

In addition to its excellent reliability, CivaStar's optic sensor head is easy to install and incredibly accurate. With no need to reset probe heights and pinpoint diagnostics of non-permissive probe readings, technicians spend less time in the garage and drivers spend more time on the road, keeping deliveries on schedule and customers happy.

CivaStar is available for a 2-wire and 5-wire overfill sensor platform and is specifically designed for today's popular straight optic loading racks. Backed by a 5-year warranty, CivaStar is part of Civacon's long-term plans to revolutionize overfill prevention and looks to expand CivaStar to its entire line of overfill systems.

The entire CivaStar line is now available through our website - just type in "Civistar" in our search box or browse directly through the CivaStar product pages.

For more information, please see the CivaStar product sheet and the three CivaStar videos that are available.
